Events Specialist

The Rodgers Tavern Museum seeks volunteers to assists with special events.  Event Specialists also act as ambassadors to special event guests and participants, making sure that event details are handled with precision and attention to detail.  Working under the direction of members of event committees, Museum and Town of Perryville staff or other volunteers, Event Specialists assist on the event day for set-up, guest assistance and registration or clean-up.  Event volunteers have the option of assisting with pre-event planning, logistics design, and event coordination necessary for the successful outcome of the Museum's special events and functions.

Work Schedule:

Days and times may vary depending on event.  Event Specialists are required to sign up for specific events in advance.  Shifts are a minimum of one hour.  May include some evening shifts during special events.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Process and/or send out invitations/mailings, book speakers or talent, help with publicity, create guest lists, write out name tags, record RSVPs, among other duties

  • Must be available on evenings and weekends as necessary to participate in the planning, setup, execution, and takedown of special events

  • Assist with admissions

  • Set up and tear down sites or stage elements

  • Assist at hospitality areas serving food or beverages

  • General event monitoring and crowd flow management (direct visitors)

  • Serves as a Museum ambassador helping guest have a safe and enjoyable visit to museum special events by being attentive to visitor and guest needs

  • Maintain a neat and professional appearance

  • Politely but assertively remind visitors of the museum's mask, no touching, no food and drink policies (as applicable)

  • Abide by all museum policies and procedures

  • Record volunteer time after each shift

Skills/Experience/Attitude Requirements:

  • Possess a friendly, outgoing personality with a "can do" attitude and desire to learn

  • Ability to provide excellent judgment and tact in interpersonal interactions

  • Ability to follow instructions and also work independently

  • Be reliable, dependable, and available to work a consistent schedule

  • Ability to communicate and interact with a diverse audience

  • Some experience in customer service or hospitality preferred (but not necessary)

  • Basic computer skills

  • All volunteers must pass a criminal background check and be 18 years or older
