Mary Woodrow
Servant at the Cunningham Hotel
In 1870, twenty-six-year-old Mary worked as a servant for James and Caroline Cunningham at their hotel. Her duties included helping Caroline cook, cleaning the hotel and family areas, making up guest rooms, answering the door, and tending to the fireplaces in winter. Mary may have also assisted Samuel Merrit, the hotel's Hostler, with the guests' horses.
